There is this excitement which comes when you are finally old enough to own and drive a car in your country. You would most likely feel that as a teenager, you are finally being trusted with more responsibility. However, in many countries of the world, this trust is often betrayed as most teenagers are estimated to be the highest causes of accidents on the road. They have therefore been branded as the most dangerous set of drivers on the road, especially on the western road. There are many reasons why teen misbehave while they are driving even on busy highways. Here are some of the reasons;

  • INEXPERIENCE: while the excitement to own a car and be allowed to drive as a teenager can be so strong, the lack of experience can be dangerous. These teenagers have never been exposed to certain situations on the road. Thus, the probability of them making mistakes in these situations is quite high. It is also a known fact that most teenagers tend to act before they have thought through a particular situation well. All this makes it quite easy for an accident to occur.
  • OVER SPEEDING: research which has been conducted various times have suggested that one thing which teenagers who drive are known for is over speeding. They are more likely to take part in driving habits which are risky and fatal in nature. This combined with the fact that they are not quite experienced makes it quite easy for them to have an accident on the road. They are also prone to tailgate while driving when compared to other sets of drivers. When you over speed, you would have less time to react to situations which can prove to be disastrous when driving. These situations would include the sudden presence of motorists and so much more.
  • ALCOHOL AND THE ABUSE OF DRUGS: one phenomenon which has ravaged many teenagers who are living in the world today is the influence of alcohol and drug abuse. One of the leading causes of death in Canada is the influence of drugs while driving. Teenagers are more likely to engage in such activities while they are driving. This would no doubt lead to consequences which would be unfavorable to everyone on the road.
  • ABSENCE OF SEAT BELTS: it is estimated that a large percentage of teenagers who use the roads do not make use of the seat-belts which have been given to them. This absence has often led to a lot of injuries which would have been prevented if seat belts were being used. It is always advised that you make use of the seat belts given to you at all time. It is your only saviour if something should happen to you while you are driving.

This shows teenagers are at a higher risk while they are driving. It is important for all teenagers to be taught just how important it is to drive safely on the road. This would lead to a reduction in the number of accidents that take place every year.
